Trouble Connecting to XBL

A) The Situation:
I am not able to connect to xbl and the reason that the xbox gives is insufficient MTU
B) My Set Up:
I am at a hospital with plenty of Ethernet ports to plug directly into. We also set up a Belkin router that is on the list of xbl approved routers.
C) What I Tried:
I tried to find the MTU setting on the router and the only way to change it is to change the connection from a dynamic ip to a PPoE. When I tried changing to a PPoE the router knocked off my co workers’ laptops and I got a lot of angry looks and shaking fists. I also tried to plug the connection directly into the Ethernet wall and I got the same message. Finally, I found on the various forums to register the MAC address with the hospital, which I did and still no success. I also tried to use my laptop as a wireless connection but this did not work(NOTE: my laptop’s wireless is working normally but I have had troubles with the wired connection at home. Meaning it has not worked for me, so I think when I tried to bridge the connection this was the problem. But I don’t have another pc laptop because all my co workers use macs). I also tried to mask the MAC address in two ways. One I copied the MAC address of one of the hospital’s computers and put that address as the alternate address on the xbox. No good. Then I tried to use one of those mac shift exe programs to trick the network into thinking that the xbox was the computer but that didn’t work probably because I don’t have administrative access on the computers.
I really want to get on xbl and play some halo. Please if anyone has any suggestions they would be greatly appreciated, and I am willing to try anything. I was wondering if I could try tweaking the DNS and host name and all those other settings on the xbox to get it to work.
Thanks,
