Connection Problems (Lag!!)
Hey,
I was wondering if anyone could give me some advise. I am an avid Halo fan and I love playing online, but lately (last 2 weeks or so) my connection has been horrible, especially at night. I'm always lagging and recently I've even been lagged out of games. So, can anyone tell me what the best service to have is?
I currently have DSL through Verizon and I would gladly change it if you guys think I should.
Thanks,
Savage Merk

It's not just you guys, I'm having problems too.
Not with lagging, but with download connections. It usually takes me no more than 5-10 minutes to download a 300 mb file on LIVE. It took me almost 2 hours yesterday to download a 300 mb video!!!
I don't believe they've fixed all the problems yet. Which leaves us gold subscribers a bunch of

verizon dsl is low end (especially for gaming with a console)
time warner/roadrunner cable, and comcast cable are the 2 most popular highspeed internets right now (i work for geeksquad, i have access to this information lulz)

I don't think there is a member on this site that hasn't had a lag problem at one time or another. I think it is a combination of things that add to the problem. Such as your internet connection including the modem being used, the Xbox Live server, the ammount of people on the game you are playing (traffic) and so on.

A lag switcher is a person who works the system so that the other players lag while they're connected directly to the host, so they do not. It causes it to be unfair because the people that are lagging can't accurately gauge their shots because the other team or player is spping all around on them, while they're basically sitting ducks.
As far as the internet connection goes, if you have the Verizon DSL and it's anything less then their 3.0M speed, it's not good for gaming as your upload speeds are too low (either 128k or 356k bps) to offer you a good connection.
I would recommend a higher speed connection for gaming, and if Verizon has their FiOS available in your area it really is the best, despite what their competitors claim to the contrary.
