Several PC modders claim the issue that causes the three red lights on the Ring of Light (RoL) is a design flaw of the clamp that holds the GPU heatsink to the motherboard. These modders say that the solder connection between the GPU and the mainboard ends up breaking after a few months because the X-shaped clamp does not produce enough pressure to the heat sink to keep the mainboard straight connected to the GPU.
Unfortunately, since Microsoft has never commented on what causes the 3RLOD, we'll never know if these modders are right about their claim.
Today,
Maxconsole.net has the scoop on the world's first Do-It-Yourself X-Clamp-Fix Kit, aimed to fix the three red lights on the Ring of Light issue on Xbox 360 permanently by allowing users to install a new clamp made of better-quality steel than that included with the system.
The respective fix was carried out by a number of specialist webstores, but a German company is claiming that their special kit has enhanced the fix so an Xbox 360 owner can do it themselves. The respective website/comany also has a lot of information on the fix. While a number of hard core modders have already performed the mod, this is the first kit to put together all the components required at a price of under $15.
