I've been contemplating purchasing a HD-DVD player for my new xbox 360 now (from local craigslist). In store is too expensive and still sell for $179 but Toshiba HD-DVD player only sell for $129 at amazon.com..
Do you have one and Just wondering what thoughts/assistance anyone could give me to help my purchasing decision?

I don't really think you NEED one. It may be good to get the one that is the cheapest though if you have your heart set on one.
Hopefully this purchase has nothing to do with the juvenile format wars between HD DVD and Blu-Ray. Both are soon to be obsolete with everything going digital.
I agree with you on the first part not the second one. Yes. we are living in the digital world but Disc will still be there for long time in both HD-DVD and BR or maybe other new format..

I believe they sell them for $129 at Toys R' Us....there was a post about it on XLC before.
But do you need them, I don't think you do. Regular formatted DVDs will be around for a while.....and I'm pretty sure they will still be around when the next Xbox comes out, so there's really no point.
I bought one for my Xbox 360. I like it but it doesn't make regular DVD's look any better in my opinion. I am using an LCD HD TV 42inch JVC. The HDDVD picture is awesome but the player is temperamental and won't play the DVD if it is in any way dirty. Do you need one.. probably not, but did you really need an Xbox either? It's not about what you need but what you want. So if you want it and can afford it I say buy it.

i just use the dvd player that is already built into the x box cause im not bothered about HD
Me too.I watched The Bourne Ultimatum last night via my xbox into my 32" HDTV,and it looked good enough to me.
With movies,I can't see hd making that much difference!
